Machining and welding

LBI carries out finishing operations at the request of its customers who have the possibility of sourcing either rough parts, semi-finished products, or machined or welded parts.

Main features

Our integrated mechanical workshop (more than 100 machine tools) allows us to machine centrifugally cast (or spun cast) pieces on conventional or high precision CNC lathes.

The workshop also allows the production of welded components in a wide range of materials (non ferrous alloys, stainless steels, aluminium. The welding processes used are TIG, MIG, wrapped electrode per EN 288, ASME IX and customers specifications.

Rough machining

A specific workshop manages the rough machining, which consists in eliminating the “skin” of centrifugally cast (or spun cast) parts. All manufactured parts undergo this machining operation, which guarantees a high level of metallurgical quality.

The surface obtained, further to this operation, constitutes the basis for an exhaustive visual control and, if necessary, for other non-destructive controls: dye penetrant testing (coloured and fluorescent), ultrasonic inspection (large range of search units), magnetic particles inspection and X-ray inspection (subcontracted to “Institut de Soudure” in Ennery Lorraine) depending on the specifications of our customers.

Dimensions and shapes

Centrifugation is mainly reserved for hollow cylindrical parts (rings, tubes, etc.). The raw external profile, generally of revolution, can be stepped (several different diameters), with flange(s) or even conical shapes.

The bore, which is cylindrical because cores are not used, is obtained by the quantity of metal introduced into the centrifugation shell.

The large fleet of tools, of more than 1,500 shells, makes it possible to achieve the dimensions and shapes requested very closely enabling an economical solution with little waste.
